Day 261: Barn by Missy

barn

this is the barn in my backyard growing up... it was constructed solely to house my dad's motorcycle... it was MUCH bigger than my mom thought is was going to be, earning it the nickname 'the barn' rather than 'the shed'... this barn not only stored my dad's harley, but it also was the hiding place for my dad's zap comix and anything else he did not want my mother to find...

Day 260: Barber by Missy

griff's

i mentioned to my dad this morning that my theme today was barber... he suggested that i go up the street and around the corner to where there used to be a barber who worked out of his house... my dad couldn't remember if it was still there or not since the barber, aka 'griff', went outta business in the seventies when all the guys wore their hair long...
well. here it is. not operating, but still here, none the less.
i think 'griff' may be bitter...

Day 251: Bone by Missy

bone

this is an xray of starla bee's chest, obviously... poor thing has had MANY xrays in her short life so far... more than me!!
i'm pretty sure this was when we were following up her two (yes, two)
heart murmurs...
this photo though, made me recall a memory... picture it... little awkward, yet sassy as ever, 13 yr old missy in class looking at a boy's xray of his broken femur... what the boy didn't realize (!?!?!?) is that you could see his entire 'package' in the xray... i, knowing full well what we were looking at, pointed, & asked the kid what 'that' (his junk) was... he got ridiculously embarrassed and then angry and super nasty to me, which i deserved... i'll never forget that... i still feel horribly about it...
(don't judge me)

Day 249: Beach by Missy

i got a sunburn on my back to match the burn on my front...
i could live on the beach...
so excited that this is possible already!!
(love this pic, too)
AND!
i came home to my repaired imac...
it's so sweet and quiet again...
: )

Day 248: Beware by Missy

Day 247: Bride by Missy

bride

ok. i cheated... twice, actually...
so todays theme was supposed to be beach, but i switched it up since i'm going to the shore on wednesday... no one will mind, i'm sure.
and this, of course, is a photoshopped pic... i found this yves saint laurent 1965 wedding dress pic and had to use it. i did however take the photo of myself today... that'll be there on my fickr so you can see me in all my unretouched glory...

Day 246: Bunny by Missy

bunny

i admit, the easter bunny did not make a basket delivery this year...
what's the point when candy and sweets are always readily available?
these are gross and they hurt my throat...
but i ate one anyway.

Day 243: Birch by Missy

birch

Birches
by
Robert Frost

When I see birches bend to left and right
Across the lines of straighter darker trees,
I like to think some boy's been swinging them.
But swinging doesn't bend them down to stay.
Ice-storms do that. Often you must have seen them
Loaded with ice a sunny winter morning
After a rain. They click upon themselves
As the breeze rises, and turn many-colored
As the stir cracks and crazes their enamel.
Soon the sun's warmth makes them shed crystal shells
Shattering and avalanching on the snow-crust--
Such heaps of broken glass to sweep away
You'd think the inner dome of heaven had fallen......

Day 241: Macaroni by Missy

macaroni

there are some in these parts that would call this capellini, macaroni... they might call rigatoni, macaroni... penne, fusilli, farfalle...
yup! all macaroni.
those same few also refer to tomato sauce as gravy...

Day 228: Madness by Missy

madness

an irish blessing

may the goddess bless the two who thought that the glass bottle was just extra thick.
may the goddess bless the one who told them that 1pint 6fl.ozs. meant 22 ozs. total and not that 1pint = 6fl.ozs.
(MADNESS!?)
may the goddess bless with long life the family of sheep who allowed their lamby to be sacrificed.
(baa ram ewe!)
may the goddess bless those who did not eat the lamb...
& may the goddess bless those who did.
may the goddess continue to inspire paul hewson, david evans, larry mullen jr., adam clayton, and the entire house of pain clan.
may the goddess protect the winged creatures of the earth, the lovers and kevin barnes.
sláinte!

Day 227: Midnight by Missy

Day 224: Moxie by Missy

moxie

moxie is one of the greatest words... not used enough.
i think of moxie, the strange but delicious carbonated beverage, first off.......
but then i think of the unbelievably awesome movie bugsy malone, a favorite...
that's what i was going for here...
if you've seen this movie, you'll know...
you'll know...

Thursday, March 11, 2010

Day 222: Mystical by Missy

mystical

i felt like i could've gone in a million different directions...
but while out today i passed by a yard covered with crocuses...
it seemed fairy-like to me...

it made me think of a poem...

She took me to her elfin grot,
And there she wept and sighed full sore,
And there I shut her wild wild eyes
With kisses four.

Day 216: Mirror by Missy

mirror

i saw a HUGE mirror on the curb out with the trash today while on my walk... i went back later with my camera and an idea but it had been already been collected by waste management...
i think this worked out better than my original curbside idea! it was hard to choose a shot... they were all so good!
so crisp!!
yay!

Day 215: Micro by Missy

micro1

ok... this photo means nothing without my write up...
my favorite album of all time is bjork's, vespertine... can't be without it. i have all the dvd's to go with the record... the making of, the videos, everything... while creating this masterpiece she needed 'micro sounds and beats'... she wanted the sound of pussy willows bursting open, the sound of a butterfly emerging from her cocoon... and she got them!! with headphones you can hear all these delicate sounds and rhythms tinkling and crackling...
they are so important to the feel of this record...
it is perfect.

SO!
while strolling in my garden this afternoon, looking for signs of spring, i was inspired by bjork... i closed my eyes and tried to imagine the smallest things and their unheard voices... perhaps this is what the hydrangea buds sound like during the big thaw, the big warm up...
