Day 24: Plane By CC

DSC00657

No matter where I have lived I have managed to stay in the flight path of planes on their way to the Philadelphia Airport.  (In Fact, as I am typing this a plane is going overhead right now.)  Because of this it is no surprise that one of Elle's first words was plane.  Of course because we buy toys constantly, she has a toy plane.

plane

ok. here's my story to go along with this photo...
when i was in high school it was the early 90's and big hair was still the rage in south jersey... one day in english class, a kid launched a paper airplane that landed in a tangled mess of teased hair and totally stayed there!!? at that moment i thought it would be wickedly adorable to have a barrette of some sort that looked like a paper airplane landing in your hair...
so when i told star about my idea for the picture, & that i wanted her to be my model, she was game... and thinks it's the cutest thing ever... she wants to wear it out today to the food store... perhaps you all will be seeing this in the new year as one of the hottest new fashions!?!

& BTW! i NEVER had big hair...

Day 23: Bus by H

A bit of graffiti-public-relations-style propaganda on a bus-stop in Perth. (Hi Luke! Hi Suzanne! I am on your side of the island, breifly.)

Day 23: Bus by Taylor

The bus is one of several that I get to drive on a regular basis when my staff consistently call out. The fish-eye mirror is attached to said bus. The fence keep the children at bay, much like you would a horde of zombies come to eat you. Which reminds me, I got a crowbar as a wedding gift!

September list is currently delayed due to an idea suggested by Em. Head to her Sign post to discuss.

Day 23: Bus by Becca

So, as I was squatting down to take this picture...a young man drove by and said "what, you've never seen a bus stop sign before?" Yeah, seriously...he has no idea...the power of the photo blog!

Day 23: Bus by J.

I also have a fear of school buses. I fear that I will be driving and look up and see kids in a school bus making fun of me. It's happened a few times now and I get that feeling every time a school bus drives by me.

Also note: This is a different lot than Carolyn's post below. There are about 50 schools within a few miles of our house, and about a billion buses.

Look at them all lined up and ready to go.  This is as close as I would get.  I don't want to see a bus until Sept. 8th.

bus

everyone needs to know this about me... i have a TERRORific fear of dying... & when i have to be on a school bus for a class trip with one of my kids, that horror exceeds all bounds of reason and logic... to the point of panic attacks, appendage numbness & barfing!?!!?
this is a shot of a school bus from the outside looking in... it captures the hxc nightmarish intensity i feel while riding...

Day 22: Sign by Em

I'm a day late posting this, but I did take the photo yesterday. And I'm excited that I'm posting again, so here you go. We hiked the Rose River Falls loop trail in Shenandoah National Park yesterday. In that park, the trail junctions are marked with concrete posts and punched metal tags, like this one.

I was thinking since September will be here soon and we've been at this for a month, it might be nice to have a day of posts introducing ourselves. Though I've met a couple of you, I'd love to know a bit about the rest of my fellow contributors. You know, who you are, where you live, what you do, how you came to be involved with this blog, etc., etc. Maybe we could un-randomize the topic for a day, make it "Introduction" and include a self portrait. What do you think? September 1st?

Day 22: Sign by Luke

I am so far behind on this still. And where will I find a bus at this hour?

Here is a sign at our local cinema advertising Sienna Miller's ass. (The advertisement is working. Put me down for two).
This is what Suzanne and I have been referring to as a Treasure Hunt picture, i.e. I'm happy to have just randomly snapped something that has to do with the theme rather than trying to improve or be creative with my photography. AVAST ME MATEYS! TREASURE HUNT AHOY!!

Day 22: Sign by Taylor

I drive by this sign every day on the way to work. Its pretty random since everything before and after it on this road is pretty heavily used, so the fact that it still is there is pretty amazing.

The September list has been randomized, possibly the October list as well, maybe the first week of November too? there were 66 themes that were shared, so what are peoples thoughts? just go for it, or new list to randomize every month?

Day 22: Sign by H

Warning: bridge may cause bicycles to become airborne.

Day 22: Sign by Becca

This weekend I went to Newport, RI with some girlfriends to celebrate my upcoming wedding to Mr. Taylor. Today we went to the beach, where there were red flag warnings due to the large waves and strong riptides caused by hurricane Bill (who is hanging out in the Atlantic). The waves were intense! As the day went on, and the tide went out, the red flags were taken down and people were allowed in the water, but only up to their waist.

Day 22: Sign by J.

This is from a new Dry Cleaners in town. It was really hard to pick which sign to use. I chose this one because I have no clue what they are offering. A shirt for c99? I guess that means theyll clean a shirt for 99c but it's only if you bring dry cleaning. But wouldn't you need to bring it to get it cleaned? I'm lost there.

I also like how "items" is taped under a space that was cut out, but they still forgot the word "cleaning". I feel bad making fun of it, but I know for a fact they'll never see this. They'll never get through spelling "astepaheadofthecomposition.blogspot.com".

sign

my favorite sign in town!! : )

Working hard to get my fill,
Everybody wants a thrill
Payin' anything to roll the dice,
Just one more time
Some will win, some will lose
Some were born to sing the blues
Oh, the movie never ends
It goes on and on and on and on......
Don't stop believin'
Hold on to the feelin'
Streetlight people

I saw this while we were driving and made J pull over so I could run into this backyard and take this picture. J was convinced I was going to get shot because the property looked quite shady. My brother-in-law was convinced a McDonald's was once here and they forgot to take down the sign.

Day 21: Smudge by Taylor

Alright, so its not a great photo as far as setup goes, but it is pretty neat looking.

In case you don't see it, its me pushed up against a mirror. What did I learn? taking photos of smudges on mirrors is hard as hell. Any suggestions on how to get a better photo of an image off of a reflective surface?

Day 21: Smudge by Luke

I compulsively sketch on post-it notes and then shove them in my pockets. Character sketch for the new show has become very smudged.

Day 21: Smudge by J.

This was taken at dinner tonight. My brother-in-law drew a Patient Walrus as we waited for our waiter. I wound up using his artwork as a place for my shrimp peelings and other food stuff. It got pretty smudgy after a while.

Nothing worse then someone making a smudge on your car window.
