This remote controlled R2-D2 is from 1978. By the tame he came into my service (circa 1987) his wheels no longer turned, so the was no point in putting batteries inside him. Flash forward a few years (not as many as you might think) and I needed some secret place to stash several varieties of contraband. R2 came in very handy. Our secret okay? (Mum you don't read this blog do you?)
