Camden, NJ was once a manufacturing hub in the early twentieth century, when those jobs left the property values dropped and with it came economic depression for the city. In the past ten years it is regularly one of the top five most dangerous cities in America. It's a shame to drive around and see great architecture dilapidated and handsome row homes boarded up because it could be a sister city to Philadelphia. It is still the home of Cambell's Soup and the final resting place of Walt Whitman.
this is really lovely, nick.
ReplyDeletegood idea.
i'm glad you're back!!
did you get to go to the aquarium? or did you just hang in CMD?
ReplyDeletewas on my way to the aquarium when I drove past that 'hotel plaza' building and thought I'd hold onto my $20 and drive around Camden for awhile, I really do love the neighborhoods, minus the pedestrians who walk in front of your car.
